And in the following decade, Black YMCAs arose in New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. As a result, the national office of YMCAs created a department to oversee Black YMCAs.

While sitting in the Doylestown Hospital infusion center for cancer treatments in 2018, Larry saw a brochure about THRIVE, YMCA of Bucks County’s cancer wellness program. He participated in the program with a small group of cancer survivors while undergoing his treatments and continues his health and wellness journey as a Y member in the Lap Pool and Wellness Center.
